Lieutenant Nadia Hoffman, of the Fourth Ceti Hussars, is on honor guard duty at the funeral of her commanding officer, who was killed in action during the same campaign that mauled her entire unit. Hoping to get some rest during their stay in the Magistracy of Canopus, the somber event is interrupted by local bandits robbing a nearby bank—using IndustrialMechs. Sent to investigate the incident, Nadia and her lancemate find themselves playing cops-and-robbers with some very determined thieves…
